On a day out exploring I went to see Coverack. It's coastal village with a fishing harbour on the east side of the Lizard peninsula. It's also got some amazing rocks on the beach and is very interesting geologically. But of course I was looking for cutting inspiration and really wanted to find a photo of the boats that I could use. I love this one because there is so much going on in the water and the colours of the boats at the top add a lovely detail

Here's my finished print

and here's how I did it.
The drawing on the lino. It's not too detailed, it's the plan

because I scribble on what I'm going to cut out as I go along

this is the 2nd colour the first was a pale yellow

the first blue and the 3rd colour of the cloud reflections

5th colour for the buoys

6th colour is another blue and 7th is the base of the shadow reflections

8th a green on the water

scribles on lino to cut next blue in the water

9th the 3rd blue

10th on the buoys

how the lino is now looking with all the reduction cutting.

11th is the 3rd colour on the buoys and in their water reflections

12th is the blue boats

13th the red boat

I love how the blue ink of the boats has stained the lino

14th dark blue on boats

just a close up of how the boats are coming along

15th darker green on the water

16th is a darker red on the red boat and 17th a brown on a blue boat

18th is a dark grey over the water

19th to 20th I rolled a black to a dark green across the whole water reflections

and lastly 21 is the last blue on the water and I also hand painted some extra bright fluorescents onto the buoys. Sorry if it upsets the purists I quite like a bit of mixed media.

in St Ives everything gets framed in white for Art Space Gallery so here's a mock up of it in a white frame.
