8th July 2021, Watergate Bay looking towards Newquay, Cornwall.
A gloriously shiny sea full of surfers. The last time I passed this beach it was a long, long empty beach, this time the tide was in and the sand was busy, covered in little groups with body boards and surf boards.
I took lots of photos but this is the one I chose to cut.
First I drew on the white foam with a white crayon.
then I cut
and here's the first colour printed, a very pale grey/aqua
2nd cutting and ink on the lino ready to print. Pale green/blue to a pale sand
and 2nd layer printed
3rd layer, a stronger blue into a brown and I added some clouds
4th layer a darker blue
5th layer I added some light blue back into the horizon under the headland.
6th and final layer my lino looked like this and I printed the headland on the horizon and a little more areas of a darker blue
close up of the headland sitting darker against the sea in the distance
and ... ta dah ... the finished print
